We offer three different styles of cruise ships and combinations of ship and flight to the South Shetland Islands in the area of the Antarctic Peninsula. We work with these Antarctic cruise suppliers because they offer a personal touch: Antarctic Dream, Antarctica XXI. The ships are of good quality, comfortable and “cosy”. However, there is one ship operated by the Norwegian company Hurtigruten, which is a different style. It is a larger ship than the other two, with a higher passenger capacity, but offering a top level of service and comfort in line with what is expected from a top Scandinavian cruise ship operator.
Antarctica XXI
The Antarctic XXI offers a combined a flight and a cruise, enabling passengers to get to or from Antarctica quicker than they normally would. This service also allows an option to start in Ushuaia, Argentina and end in Punta Arenas, Chile and vice-versa.
Antarctica XXI Ship
The Ship is called Ocean Nova. It is a modern and comfortable vessel. Built in Denmark in 1992 to sail through the ice-ridden waters of Greenland, she has a re-enforced hull specifically to handle the challenges of navigating through ice-covered seas. The ship has a capacity for 68 passengers all accommodated in cabins with windows, with en-suite facilities. On board is a glass-enclosed observation lounge, a presentation room, a spacious dining room, bar and library, plus a sick room and an exercise room. The ship is accompanied by 2 fully-covered life boats with capacity for 90 people and zodiac boats for ship-to-shore excursions.
Antarctica XXI Plane
The aircraft used for the flight sectors is a BAE 146 - 200, made by British Aerospace in Britain. It is a high-wing aircraft that requires a very short run way for take off and landing and supports 4 engines. The flight is operated by Aerovias DAP, which has more than 20 years experience flying routes in Patagonia and Antarctica.
Antarctic Dream Ship
This is the most personal and particular of the three Antarctic cruise options that we offer. Two itinerary options allow passengers to combine a flight and cruise as well as boarding in Ushuaia (Argentina) and ending in Punta Arenas (Chile) and vice-versa. The M/V Antarctic Dream was formerly called Piloto Pardo. It comprises 4 decks, 40 wood-panelled cabins (state rooms) each with an outer sea-view window, a maximum passenger capacity of 80, a bridge that is open to passengers, a main dining room (for 100 passengers), first-aid room with doctor on board, a projection lounge, heliport, bar, library and souvenir shop and 6 zodiac dinghies for ship-to-shore excursions.
Hurtigruten Ship
The ship, MS Fram, is named after another ship that was used by a famous Norwegian explorer called Fridtjof Nansen. It is a modern ship of the style associated with the luxury cruise ships of Scandinavia, that is to say, everything is built and finished to a high standard. The ships interior is designed around the colours and open spaces of Greenland and the Arctic region, including original art works on the walls. There is also a glass-enclosed observation lounge and on-board leisure facilities including a gym, sauna and two-heated outdoor Jacuzzis.
The MS Fram is a purpose-built 8-deck, 12,700-ton vessel, built in 2007 in Italy, for cruising in Arctic waters and Norwegian fiords. There is capacity on board for 300 passengers.
