This is a trip on a small boat, with covered cabin, that sails on Grey Lake in Torres del Paine to the face of Glacier Grey.
It is a great opportunity to get close to any floating glacial ice bergs that are on the lake and to see the amazing blue colours of the glacial face.
Options include a return trip from Hosteria Lago Grey or from Hosteria Lago Grey to the Refugio Grey (but this route does not pass in front of the glacier), and also from Refugio Grey to Hosteria Lago Grey (and this route does pass in front of the glacier).
Description
Hosteria Lago Grey the trip begins in a small inlet and takes in the length of Lago Grey passing by any icebergs that are floating in the lake. On a clear day the surrounding scenery is spectacular with views of hanging glaciers and snow-caped peaks around the Park. After about an hour and a half the boat will reach the face of Grey Glacier and you will see the stunning spectrum of blue-coloured ice and jagged ice peaks, and hear the crack and rumble of the glacier splitting as it moves. The lined walls of the mountains will show clear evidence of the glacial forces that twisted and scratched lines onto the rock.
Clothes
Take a warm jacket, warm hat and even gloves as it can be quite cold when the wind blows down off the frozen ice.

Whisky or Pisco, with ice from the glacier (made thousands of years ago), snacks and coffee.

Bad Weather
Occasionally in the season there is bad weather, and/or very strong winds and when this happens this excursion is either cancelled or postponed. People boarding the trip from the Refugio Grey need to consider that they may not be able to take the trip, in which case they need to walk back to Refugio Paine Grande and take the catamaran out to Pudeto and a bus out from there. We will refund any client the cost of this excursion if it is cancelled through no fault of their own.
