Torres del Paine and Our Suggestions

Our first suggestion has to be: appoint us to make your reservations and create your itinerary, thus deal with only one supplier and benefit from our local knowledge.

It has been difficult to put down the suggestions below because there are just so many options in this spectacular part of the World. However, we have selected a number of itinerary plans that will work with any of the hotels we work with, from the very best to the mid-level sector.

Time to Enjoy

What is most important when you come to a place like Torres del Paine and the surrounding area is time. Please make sure you allow yourself enough time to really enjoy being here. It usually takes a while to get over the travel fatigue to get here. It then takes a while to adjust to this new environment. You then need to be able to relax and take in all the new sights, sounds and experiences you will endure. In reality it is unlikely you will return here soon, so bear that in mind and make sure you allow yourself to get the most out of this wonderful opportunity.

In our view, you will have a far better trip and overall experience by allowing a minimum of two nights (and ideally more) in any one place (this does not include hiking in TDP or transit-only stopovers).

Transport

For independence take a rent a car.

For personal indulgence use the services of private transfers.

For economy use the regular buses.

Breaking the Journey

Take a night at Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales on day of arrival and also departure in order to get of the initial traveling fatigue and to rest.

Allow for at least 3 nights in Torres del Paine and 4 nights if you can.

If you can go for one of the all-inclusive options

Whale Watching

If you have the time do consider our whale-watching option.

Puerto Natales

Puerto Natales is now only an hour from the Rio Serrano end of Torres del Paine and offers a good base from which to venture out into the Park each day. The scenery around Puerto Natales is beautiful. The village is situated beside the Senoret Channel, which leads into the Ultima Esperanza Sound (or fiord), and this stretch of water is bordered by hills and snow – covered mountains with glaciers at the far end. If you are staying in Puerto Natales it is a good place to come back to after an exhilarating day in Torres del Paine.

El Calafate

If you are going to, or coming from El Calafate, allow for a full day to get from one place to the other.

Only go to El Calafate if you really want to see the Perito Moreno Glacier.

If you will have seen, or will also see Glacier Grey in Torres del Paine, there is no real need to also go all the way over to El Calafate to see the Perito Moreno Glacier – when you have seen one glacier you have seen them all.

El Chalten

Only go to El Chalten if you are a serious hiker. Out of El Chalten and Torres del Paine, Torres del Paine has much more dramatic scenery and has better accommodation facilities in general.

Torres del Paine the “W” and “Circuit”

Only attempt the “W” and / or “Circuit in Torres del Paine if you are reasonably fit and can hike several hours each day. There is no real benefit to go in one direction or the other, but transport logistics and bed availability will determine which way you will need to go.
