Perito Moreno Glacier Ice Hiking Reservations and Ice Climbing Reservations
All the tours below do NOT include the entrance fee to enter the Glaciers National Park, which is approx USD30 per person.
The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the largest glaciers in the Southern Patagonian Ice field. It can be viewed relatively easily from viewing points on dry land that are opposite the glacial face. From here it stretches back up and into the mountains for some 30km. The glacier face is about 5km wide and the height of the glacial wall above water is around 60mts – with much more of it under the water. This combination of vast dimensions makes for a jaw-dropping spectacle. There are various ways to enjoy Perito Moreno, from a simple half day excursion to view it from dry land to walking on its surface, or climbing down into it.
There are two trekking options. One is called “Minitrekking” and takes people on the surface of the glacier, and the other is called “Big Ice” and takes people into the glacier, where actual ice climbing is required.

Description
The excursion begins at Puerto “Bajo de las Sombras” (Port Under the Shadows) – a point about 6km before the viewing point to Glacier Perito Moreno - where the boat departs to cross “Brazo Rico” for a 20 min trip to the southern side of Glacier Perito Moreno passing by the glacial face and navigating through the iceberg channel. After disembarkation clients will walk for about 20 min to a refugio where the guides organize people into groups of around 20. Everyone will then begin to walk towards the glacier for about another 20 minutes to an area bordering the glacier. Here, the guides will fit people with crampons and give instruction on how to walk on the ice.
The actual ice hike (walking on the glacier) will last for around 2 hours during which time you will see various ice formations such as crevasses, small lagoons, craters and various ice formations that are unique to this kind of terrain. The guide will also talk about any flora and fauna in the area and the geology of the region in general.
