The Hosteria El Pionero, or Hotel Pionero, is an original house from the time when the entire area was one massive estancia and on this land were very small settlements (Cerro Guido, Lazo, Cerro Castillo) for farm workers. It is historical and charming. Rooms are individual and spacey, with high ceilings and simple, country-rustic-style beds. It is located at the border-crossing village of Cerro Castillo, about 100km from Torres del Paine.
It is very homely and offers guests a friendly welcome with living room and dining room to be used.
This is a very useful place to stay over if needing a night at the border when travelling between Chile and Argentina, but best suited to those with a car.
